Delivering a high-speed mobile network to fans at the largest stadium in the State of Mississippi

Stadium Capacity: 64,038

Vaught–Hemingway Stadium at Hollingsworth Field was first built in 1915 and is an outdoor athletic stadium located in Oxford, Mississippi.  The stadium has had numerous upgrades over the years and serves as the home for the University of Mississippi Rebels college football team.  Since its expansion in 2016, it is the largest stadium in the state of Mississippi.

M-Communications built a brand new BTS network for major Carrier after decommissioning the old system.  The project ensured fans continued delivery of their broadband wireless service and mobile connectivity both inside the stadium, across the 10 acres of ‘Grove and Circle’ tailgating area adjacent to the stadium, as well as over 88,000 sq. ft of connectivity in the Ford Center and delivered new services into two additional campus buildings.

Scope of Work

In 2018 major Carrier chose M-Communications to perform the decommissioning of their existing BTS network, and the build out a brand new BTS network to connect to the revamped neutral-host DAS in the venue.  The 43 sector network consisted of 1 carrier of UMTS and 4 carriers of LTE. Of the 43 Sectors, 32 sectors were stadium DAS zones, 9 CRAN zones in the Grove and Circle, plus 1 sector in Gertrude Ford Center of the Performing Arts, Holman Hall and Conner Hall buildings to increase coverage and capacity.
