Enabling First Responder communications to save lives and keep every student at the student housing campus safe!

An expansive 12-acre student village is comprised of over two-dozen interconnected buildings and a multitude of outdoor spaces including a grand courtyard, study spots, recreational spaces, and outdoor terraces.  There are five floors of student housing for over 1,100 students. The first floor and mezzanine level of the main structure serve as retail, event and office spaces. In an effort to activate the space surrounding a beautiful lake setting, amenities include a large exhibition space for dynamic programming and other meeting spaces such as an auditorium, a classroom, and multi-use pavilion.

  • Building height: 7 stories (ground floor, mezzanine, 5 residential levels)

  • Total village area: 12 acres

  • Building area: 540,000 sq. ft.

  • Total number of beds: over 1,100

M-Communications was appointed as sole-contractor by Notora LLC to install a public safety system. Public safety BDA systems are two-way radio systems used to assist first responders in the event of an emergency. The goal of a BDA/DAS is to eliminate communication “dead spots” or “dead zones” in a building by extending coverage range so that First Responders can communicate as needed.

Scope of Work

With our ability to work flexible hours, we were able to install the ADRF Public Safety system within our client’s timeline. Our project scope included interacting with stakeholders from the University’s facilities management team and the local AHJ. The public safety system provides emergency responder radio coverage across the student housing project. The head-end was installed on the ground level and ADRF remotes were installed in local IDF closets throughout the second floor.

“A major university in Florida reached out to Notora for design support for a new student housing building being constructed on campus. When they asked Notora to help them select a vendor to accomplish the construction, we were happy to take up that challenge. As a longstanding partner of Notora, and considering their local presence in many Florida markets and highly competitive pricing, M-Communications was the logical choice for us. From the executive team to the project manager, down to the technician level, M-Communications executed flawlessly on every aspect of the project, even when facing serious construction and permitting challenges. Due to this execution, we have since completed another venue on campus and have proposed two additional buildings. From top to bottom, M-Communications is a class act and I look forward to many more projects together!”
